Video Solutions

Video Conferencing has come a long way since regular television sets and co-ax cables were used to set up a analog “video phone” connection in the early 20th century. The advance of IP networks and compression technologies has made it possible to communicate seamlessly with people across the globe, anywhere, anytime and on any device.

Video communication has permeated virtually every field. Telemedicine has benefitted greatly by technologies that allow doctors to stream and view high resolution videos. Education has reached the remotest areas because instructors can easily set up two way video links with students anywhere in the world. Enterprises have been able to reduce travel with multi-location video conferences because improvements in technology has made it easy and affordable.

Video Streaming has always been a challenge given the constraints on available bandwidth and computing power. However, current video streaming systems use compression technologies that eliminate most of these obstacles. And hence the exponential growth in Telemedicine and Tele-education benefiting the common man.

Colleges regularly invite renowned educators as their guest faculty and visiting professors. However, the true benefit is realized only when large numbers of students participate in these guest lectures. But there are many challenges. How to fit in so many students into lecture halls that are not designed for the excess demand? How can students see repeats of the lecture once it is over? How can the college build up their curriculum with these lectures?

Shakti has been providing solutions to these challenges for the past few years. By implementing solutions based on the NCast recorders, colleges can:

  • Record the video and audio of the lecture and merge with other multimedia feeds like info-graphics and presentations
  • Compose these feeds into a single multimedia stream
  • Encode the stream into a standard MP4 file that can be viewed on any media player without the need of a specific software client
  • Choose the video layout with multiple feeds in 3 windows – saving the effort required in editing the video stream
  • Stream the video live to students either on-campus or off it
  • Archive the lectures in a digital library

Now students are able to not only view the lecture live, but also view it from a digital library through the institution’s portal at a time and location of their choice. Since it is tightly integrated with LDAP, authentication and security is assured. Because of the in-built smart indexing facility, students can search for a particular lecture topic or faculty or lecture date. Students use this when they have missed a lecture or want to reference or review it at their pace.

PR-HD-Basic The PR-HD-Basic captures video, audio and computer feeds together into a combined HD video and records the entire presentation to the H.264/MP4 open standard. It also simultaneously streams the resulting file either locally within a network or across the internet with the NCast Presentation Server or other content delivery services. It fully automates this recording and streaming by offering a dedicated hardware solution with a powerful set of features. The rack-mount unit may be configured with a single encoder or with dual encoders.

PR-HD-Extreme The PR-HD-Extreme captures video, audio and computer feeds together into a combined HD video and records the entire presentation to the H.264/MP4 open standard. It also simultaneously streams the resulting file either locally within a network or across the internet with the NCast Presentation Server or other content delivery services. It fully automates this recording and streaming by offering a dedicated hardware solution with a powerful set of features.

PR-HD-Ultra The PR-HD-Ultra captures video, audio and computer feeds together into a combined HD video and records the entire presentation to the H.264/MP4 open standard. It also simultaneously streams the resulting file either locally within a network or across the internet with the NCast Presentation Server or other content delivery services. It fully automates this recording and streaming by offering a dedicated hardware solution with a powerful set of features.

Medical Colleges and Hospitals have seen an increasing demand for videos of unique surgeries to be recorded and archived for the benefit for the medical community at large and the families of the patients. Also, Hospitals have increasingly started collaborating with specialist surgeons across the globe. However, Hospitals are faced with multiple challenges. Surgery videos are useless unless they are extremely high resolution, combine the patient medical data during the surgery and include the voice of the surgeon explaining the procedure while the surgery is going on.

With the development of Video over IP technologies, solutions to these challenges are easily implemented. Today, multiple high resolution cameras in the Operation theatre can record not just the close up of the surgery, but also focus on the Surgeon and monitor the patient. These video feeds can then be combined with patient data from health monitors and audio from the OT. Cutting edge video recorders capture these various inputs, combine them into a single video in real-time, compress them and then stream them to locations within or outside the campus. Such videos can also be indexed by surgery type, date, surgeon etc. and archived for future reference. To collaborate with experts from different locations, the surgery recording solution can be combined with a Video Conferencing solution that permits 2 way communications. Surgeons in the OT can relay the surgery video feed to experts outside the campus and get their opinion, directions in real time.

NCast Hydra The PR-Hydra is the newest of NCast's presentation recorder products. It is the first in the industry to record two full-screen layouts and create a composite layer. Previous NCast products have side-by-side window viewing. The new PR-Hydra has three windows, which allows for streaming of three different views while retaining the high-quality original recording. Simply connect your source, connect to the network, start the interface, and you're broadcasting your presentation.

Enterprises have greatly benefitted from the technological improvements in Video Conferencing. It all started as large expensive Video Conferencing systems specially designed for board rooms. Senior Management and Directors could conduct video conferences with others having the same system. Due to the cost factor, such implementations were few and restricted to large enterprises.

However, the introduction of SIP standards has drastically changed the landscape. Today’s VC systems can talk to each other over SIP standards, overthrowing barriers of brand and vendor. Improvements in technology has not only shrunk the size of VC systems, but also increased the video quality to HD levels. Improvements compression technologies have enabled VC to reach even small and remote offices on low bandwidths.

The benefits to enterprises are huge. Reduction in travel expenses, reachability of employees and better interaction with remote teams have changed the way business is done. The world had already become flat – VC has made the world smaller.
